                              Our Ethos

At Little Stones, we believe every child deserves the very best start in life. Children flourish in environments where they feel happy, loved, safe, and secure, and we strive to provide exactly that—alongside rich opportunities for fun, learning, and discovery.

We have a deep appreciation for the natural world and all that it offers young children. Through meaningful outdoor experiences and child-led learning, we aim to nurture curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.

By building on each child's natural interests and abilities, we support them in developing confidence, resilience, and positive relationships with others.

We recognise that every child is a unique individual. Children become strong and independent through secure, nurturing relationships and high-quality learning environments that inspire them to investigate, explore, and develop at their own pace.

Our setting embraces natural resources and open-ended materials, creating inviting spaces that encourage imagination, curiosity, and independent thinking.

Our practice is guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and inspired by the principles of Forest School, Reggio Emilia, Steiner education, and the Curiosity Approach. By drawing on these philosophies, we provide a holistic learning experience that supports every aspect of a child's development.

We are committed to helping children become happy, confident, resilient learners who are well prepared for their next stage of education.

As children approach school age, we celebrate this important transition and work closely with families to ensure they feel ready and excited for the next chapter of their learning journey.

At Little Stones, we value strong partnerships with parents and the wider community. Working together helps us ensure that the wellbeing, rights, and safety of every child remain at the heart of everything we do.

                                                                      Learning Through Nature

Outdoor learning is a fundamental part of life at Little Stones. Our outdoor experiences are child-led, with practitioners supporting and guiding rather than directing learning. This approach allows children to develop their imagination, curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills in meaningful and engaging ways.Whether working independently or collaborating with friends, children learn to explore their environment, share ideas, overcome challenges, and develop important social skills. We embrace the philosophy of bringing the indoors outside and the outdoors inside, ensuring children remain connected to nature throughout their learning experiences.

                                                         Our Learning Environment

Our main learning space is carefully organised to provide opportunities across all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Children are encouraged to free-flow between activities, following their interests and taking ownership of their learning. Practitioners observe, support, and extend these experiences, ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.

Our aim is to nurture confident, capable, and resilient children who leave Little Stones with a strong sense of self-belief, a love of learning, and the skills they need to embrace future challenges with confidence.
